Overview of Role/Notes
Eurydice is one of the most human-centred characters in Hadestown. She is a young woman trying to survive in a harsh, unstable world where warmth, food, and safety are never guaranteed. Unlike mythic portrayals that emphasize romance, this version focuses on survival first, love second. She's not passive or naïve - she makes difficult choices based on immediate reality.
Eurydice is practical, cautious, resilient, sharp-witted, emotionally guarded, deeply tired, but still hopeful in her own way. Where others see possibility, she often sees risk. This doesn't mean she lacks love - it means she refuses to let love blind her to danger.
Eurydice is typically written as a lower, earthier female voice. Her singing style is one of the clearest ways the show communicates her character: grounded, practical, and shaped by survival rather than fantasy. Her tone is often described as smoky or husky contrasting sharply with Orpheus, whose voice is light, high, and frequently falsetto-based.
Looking for: Actress bringing realism to the role - more grounded, natural, than the other mythical characters. With clear and controlled vocals.
